General Summary:
Unix Engineer/Application Developer provides support for the ISP department of Mpower Communications. This includes services such as Web Hosting, Email, DNS and will entail software development and maintain customer applications using various languages and systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Application development with strong Object Oriented & software design skills.
- Software development with Ruby, Perl and other languages for server and customer applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive experience creating large scale web based applications
- 5+ years software development experience
- Proficient in Ruby
- Strong knowledge of Ruby on Rails
- Basic knowledge of Linux installation, configuration, and management
- Experience configuring and maintaining Apache, Postfix/Sendmail, MySQL, and Bind
- Familiarity with XML, SOAP, XHTML1.1, CSS, AJAX, and Javascript
- Ability to identify, research and problem-solve in a timely manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with peers and all levels of management
- Very strong organizational, task management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to set and meet rational timelines and deadlines
- BS in computer science or related subject a plus
