Mpower Communications Plans Expansion into Northwest Region
ROCHESTER, NY -- April 25, 2000 -- Mpower Communications (Nasdaq:MPWR), a leading provider of broadband data, Internet and telephony services to business customers, today announced that it plans to establish its Northwest regional headquarters in Denver, Colo., and has appointed William T. Watson as Northwest Regional President. Watson joins Mpower from Arch Communications Group, where he was most recently Western Region Division President for the nation's second largest wireless data company.
"Bill's extensive telecommunications sales and marketing experience will prove to be an asset for Mpower as we continue to expand our service offering nationwide, arming growing business enterprises with high-speed Internet, data and telephony services," said Rolla P. Huff, President and CEO of Mpower Communications.
Watson has been appointed to lead Mpower's expansion into Denver and the rest of the US West territory. He will continue in the company's distributed business model, with responsibility for regional sales and all local provisioning. Mpower expects to begin offering integrated communications services including local telephone, long distance, Internet, data, Web hosting and VoSDSL access, in its Northwest Region during the September/October timeframe.
According to Huff, Denver was the logical location for the company's Northwest operations. "Denver is one of the fastest-growing high-tech communities in the country," he said. "As we continue to expand our service offering nationwide, Denver will provide a fertile proving ground for our high-speed Voice over Symetrical Digital Subscriber Line (VoSDSL), data and Internet services because of its technology-savvy business community."
In his last position with Arch, Watson managed the top performing business unit -- a $200 million division of the company. He also conceived and managed the successful start-up and expansion of Arch's Midwest region. In addition to his tenure at Arch, Watson held numerous sales and marketing management positions with Harron Communications Corp., Adelphia Communications Corp. and Fetzer Broadcasting Corp. He earned a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University.
