Mpower Communications Appoints Chief Information Officer
ROCHESTER, NY -- May 23, 2000 -- Mpower Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:MPWR), a facilities-based provider of broadband data, Internet and telephony services to business customers, today announced the appointment of Robert Scott as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Scott will have responsibility for the company's Information Technology (IT) and Operating Support Systems (OSS), including provisioning and back-office systems, network management tools and process mapping.
Scott joins Mpower from Logix Communications, a Midwestern telecommunications company, where he was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology and Strategy Officer. At Logix, Scott managed the IT organization and oversaw the company's Internet strategy, technology evaluation, and network engineering and build-out. Prior to Logix, Scott held IT management positions at Johnson & Johnson, General Electric and ABC Television.
"Robert brings well-rounded business skills in both IT and Network Services and understands that our systems infrastructure is central to our network expansion, product delivery and customer service," said Mpower Communications President and Chief Executive Officer Rolla P. Huff. "Under Robert's direction, we will be making significant investments in both people and capital to further the automation and scalability of our back-office systems."
While at Logix, Scott developed an Application Service Provider (ASP) company and a multi-function Web portal. He has extensive experience in Internet and data services and a broad understanding of complex network infrastructures.
"I think we have an excellent opportunity to use information as a competitive advantage in this industry. My goal will be to see information play a key role in customer attraction, retention and service," said Scott. He is relocating to Mpower's corporate headquarters in Rochester, NY.
