Mpower Communications Broadens Midwest Presence
Brings Broadband Internet, Data and Voice Services to Five New Midwest Markets
ROCHESTER, NY - September 20, 2000 - Mpower Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:MPWR), a leading provider of broadband data, Internet and telephony services to business customers, today announced it has expanded the availability of its integrated, high-speed voice and data communications services to five new Midwest markets including Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio; and Ann Arbor, Detroit and Grand Rapids, Mich.
"Mpower continues to make steady progress on expanding what is already one of the largest facilities-based voice and data networks in the country," said Rolla P. Huff, President and CEO, Mpower Communications. "With this extensive footprint, we bring the time and cost efficiencies once reserved only for Fortune 500 companies into the hands of small business."
Mpower's service offering includes economical local and long distance telephone service, coupled with high-speed Internet connections through Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) technology. SDSL offers consistent upload and download Internet connection speeds that can be used by businesses to transport large files between offices, vendors or customers.
The company can also combine these services over a single copper loop to offer Voice over SDSL (VoSDSL). As one of the nation's first companies to offer VoSDSL, Mpower can carry separate voice channels and data connections simultaneously over a single copper phone line which already exists in customers' offices. By utilizing an SDSL service delivery platform, business customers can take advantage of significant cost savings associated with dynamic bandwidth allocation of both its voice
and data traffic.
Mpower has more than doubled its network footprint over the past six months. In addition to its newest Midwest markets, the company offers integrated communications services throughout its service area including Atlanta; Chicago; Northern and Southern California (including Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Francisco and Orange County); Dallas; Southern Florida and Las Vegas.
